Otis Worldwide Corp. has unveiled its expanded Gen3 Core elevator, designed for the growing U.S. low-rise building market. The new elevator model features bigger cabs, greater load capacities and larger door openings, as well as updated aesthetics.
The company said that the Otis Gen3 Core is ideal for transporting both passengers and heavier items such as medical equipment, office furniture and large deliveries. The elevator is now available with load capacities up to 5,000 pounds, door openings up to 8 feet, and cabs up to 9 feet, 9 inches tall by 10 feet, 1 inch deep.

“Our upgraded Gen3 Core elevator was inspired by feedback from our customers, who asked us to expand our existing Gen3 Core offering for the growing segment of 2-8 story buildings – and particularly in the residential, office, and health care sectors,” said Joseph Armas, president of U.S. and Canada for Otis in a statement.
“The expanded Gen3 Core elevator combines a larger cab with greater lifting capacity, smart connectivity, and energy efficiency for this substantial low-rise market,” he added.
Connected and energy efficient
The Gen3 Core elevator is produced at the company’s North American Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Florence, South Carolina. Designed for short manufacturing lead times and efficient installation, the elevator features a compact machine room-less design that reduces building requirements.
The elevator features up to 59 feet of travel, a maximum of eight stops, and a travel speed of 150-200 feet per minute, according to the Otis website. It comes equipped with the Otis ONE IoT digital platform that connects elevators to the cloud, enabling real-time monitoring to resolve issues quickly and improve uptime and service quality.
The IoT platform also comes with eView, a customizable in-car display that, when an emergency call is placed, enables an instant connection with an Otis customer care representative via a voice or video call. Facility managers can view their elevator data via the Otis Customer Portal.
The Gen3 Core is certified with an Environmental Product Declaration and features a compact, gearless permanent magnet machine and regenerative drive technology (ReGen) that curb energy consumption by up to 75% compared to conventional systems. Otis adds that is patented, coated steel belts do not require any lubrication and last three times longer than conventional ropes.
Otis introduced the Gen3 Core elevator in 2023, featuring digital connectivity and a competitive price point. The model was designed specifically for the low-rise market in the U.S. and Canada. According to Otis, 80% of the buildings in the U.S. stand at eight stories or less.
